Wired Senior Writer Lauren Goode wrote about her experience calling off her wedding in 2019, but to the algorithms behind Facebook, Pinterest and other applications, she’s “forever getting married.” Popular apps now automatically remind people of their digital histories, and while Goode tried to control her digital identity, “the data never really went away.” She wrote, “The internet is clever, but it’s not always smart. It’s personalized, but not personal,” adding, it takes and “runs with whatever signals you’ve given it, and good luck catching up.”
