The Draft Investigatory Powers Bill, also known as the Snooper’s Charter, received more than 100 responses from government agencies, global companies, internet service providers, and advocacy groups during its public comment phase, V3.co.uk reports. The Office of the Information Commissioner criticized the draft bill’s anti-encryption provisions and also seeks more definitive answers on the law’s plans for communication service providers’ data retention requirements. Home Secretary Theresa responded, saying the Charter would not aim to eradicate encryption. Meanwhile, the United Nations called the bill a “threat” to human rights. In its statement, the Crown Prosecution Service was more complimentary.
