A pending settlement agreement in a Chicago federal court could have Standard Innovation Corp., makers of the app-controlled personal massager We-Vibe, paying $3.75 million to users after a proposed class-action lawsuit alleged the device monitored, collected and stored users' "highly intimate and sensitive data" without their consent, the Chicago Tribune reports. Additionally, Standard Innovation said it would destroy the data it had stored, stop further personal information and email collection, and notify customers of its data use practices in the future, the report states. Of the $3.75 million, the company allotted $750,000 for consumers who merely purchased the device, while users of both the app and device could receive up to $10,000 each. While Standard Innovation denied wrongdoing in the settlement, a spokesman said the company had revised its privacy notice, among other privacy-enhancing moves.
