In an interview with Reuters, iRobot CEO Colin Angle discussed his company's bold move to integrate its popular robotic vacuum, the Roomba, with other smart home features. "There's an entire ecosystem of things and services that the smart home can deliver once you have a rich map of the home that the user has allowed to be shared," he said. Angle noted the company has made the Roomba compatible with Amazon's Alexa voice assistant and floated the idea the company could sell user data to Amazon, Apple or Google. The news, however, has raised some privacy concerns. The Guardian characterized the reaction to the Reuters article as a "privacy row," while Gizmodo described the vacuum as a "creeping, creepy little spy." For iRobot, however, the move is bolstering investment, with shares valued at $102, up from $35 just one year ago.
