The facial verification technology that will be used for Singapore’s 4 million residents to access government services through the national identity scheme is raising concerns from privacy advocates, Reuters reports. The government said users’ explicit consent is sought before the verification process is conducted. The technology was supplied by iProov, whose Founder and CEO Andrew Bud said, “The rest of the world will study this innovation,” while Privacy International Legal Officer Ioannis Kouvakas called it “unprecedentedly intrusive.”
