Singapore is planning to create the most elaborate and comprehensive smart city in the world, The Wall Street Journal reports. The country plans on placing an undetermined amount of cameras and sensors around the city, permitting the government to check everything from crowd numbers to the movement of vehicles. While the smart city’s capabilities won’t be fully realized until after it is implemented, some early uses could include monitoring events such as the spread of infectious diseases. The government is working on finding the best way to ensure citizens’ privacy won’t be violated, according to the report. While public meetings haven’t been held on protecting citizens’ privacy, the government insists collected data will be anonymized as much as possible.
