Messaging app Signal is introducing a new feature, called the “sealed sender,” to add protection to the identity of message senders. While nothing notably changes, once the app rolls out the new feature, the sender’s information will be encrypted and replaced with a short-term certificate to prove the sender’s identity. In a blog post, Signal stated, “We have been exploring techniques to further reduce the amount of information that is accessible to the service, and the latest beta release includes changes designed to move Signal incrementally closer to the goal of hiding another piece of metadata: who is messaging whom.”
