Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Tom Udall, D-N.M., have released new legislation, called the Managing Your Data Against Telecom Abuses Act, that would give consumers controls around their personal information collected by telecommunications companies. The move comes after a highly contentious roll back of Obama-era privacy rules that would have required broadband providers to not sell browsing history without consent. In a press release, Blumenthal said, "Republican lawmakers have given broadband providers a green light to sell your sensitive personal information to the highest bidder. My bill makes sure the FTC has the authority it needs to restore consumer control and allow individuals to use the internet without fear of invasive or intrusive practices that turn our private lives into yet another commodity in the open market."
