This week, the United States came 230 data breaches away from an “all-time high,” according to Identity Theft Resource Center Chief Operating Officer James Lee, but data security requirements either within a federal privacy law or a standalone regulation “would substantially improve data protection” and bring “stronger protections and greater clarity to the marketplace,” Kelley Drye Of Counsel Jessica Rich said. Lee and Rich testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation Wednesday, which held its second privacy hearing in two weeks.
