According to the Jamaica Information Service, the Jamaican Senate passed the country's data protection bill, which takes effect in 2022 after a transitional period. The Senate approved the legislation, with three amendments, following passage by the House of Representatives on May 19. Sen. Kamina Johnson Smith said a two-year grace period is "an appropriate period for public education" on the bill "(so that) people will understand the bill when it has come into effect."
