State Sen. Thomas Cullerton, D-Ill., has introduced the Data Transparency and Privacy Act. The bill, brought to the Illinois Senate Jan. 8, includes provisions on the "right to know," user opt-outs, and rights to the correction and deletion of personal data. Cullerton's proposal said, "This state recognizes the importance of providing consumers with transparency about how their personal information is stored, used, and shared by businesses. This transparency is crucial for Illinois citizens to protect themselves and their families from cyber-crimes and identity thieves."
