In an interview with Fox News, U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., claimed big tech companies are hiring lobbyists to delay or stop a potential federal privacy law. "They have an unparalleled fleet of lobbyists and lawyers and think tanks and economists — and they deploy those in force. And they are very influential with a lot of members," Hawley said, adding proposed privacy legislation is "commonsense" and "we should vote on them now." Hawley also pointed to potential updates to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act as one particular action lobbyists are delaying.
