The Hill reports on a continued effort by lawmakers to restrict Chinese companies from contracting with the U.S. market, citing national security concerns. Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, who introduced legislation earlier this month that would block Chinese tech firm Huawei from contracting with U.S companies, said, “We don’t want undisclosed back doors into our systems,” adding, “The relationship those companies have with different Chinese intelligence agencies themselves and their government — it’s opaque. We don’t know what is or isn’t there.” While the perceived lack of separation between government and companies in China raises privacy and security concerns for U.S lawmakers, others warn that China may retaliate by banning U.S. companies.
