U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo called the differential privacy technique being used in the 2020 census “justified,” The Associated Press reports. The Census Bureau said the technique will be applied to age, race and other demographic information to obscure an individual’s identity while providing accurate statistics. A lawsuit has been filed in Alabama over claims it will result in inaccurate data, and civil rights groups have raised concerns. “It’s a statistical technique that is intended to protect people’s privacy,” Raimondo said.
