Scotland launched a nationwide COVID-19 contact-tracing application called Protect Scotland, ZDNet reports. The app, which runs in a phone’s background, uses Bluetooth signals to identify smartphone users who were in close contact with someone who tested positive for the virus and may be at risk of contracting it. Officials said the app cannot be used to track a user’s location or reveal identities of close contacts of those who test positive.
