The Office of the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner has advised the Ministry of Central Services to create a plan to manage the thousands of backup tapes government agencies have used to copy information, Saskatoon StarPhoenix reports. The privacy commissioner’s report centers on the “critical data” Central Services placed on the backup tapes, as well as an assessment of how the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act applies to the information. Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner Ron Kruzeniski wrote in the report his office will continue to work on the topic with other privacy commissioners across the country.
