Larger tech companies, including Samsung, Apple and Google look to expand their services into the coming Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. Forbes reports that Samsung is creating a “data bank” of biometric information so that app developers and researchers can create new health-related services; Apple is expected to announce similar health-related services next week at the WWDC conference for developers. According to the report, specifically, Apple is expected to announce Healthbook, a closed environment for developers to create apps for Apple devices. One analyst said, “It’s inevitable there will be battle for wrist space against Apple, and Apple will be working in the same kind of area of optical sensors and wearable bands on the wrist.” Meanwhile, rumors have been swirling that Google may acquire home security firm Dropcam, just months after acquiring Nest for $3.2 billion.
