Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., has introduced the “SAFE TECH Act,” which would make it easier to sue social media platforms for abusive or harmful content, CNBC reports. The proposal would amend Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which currently grants platforms liability immunity, stating immunity would not apply in certain instances, like hosting ads targeting vulnerable users. While Warner said the proposal has “hit a sweet spot,” Fight for the Future Director Evan Greer said it would “solidify the monopoly power of the largest tech companies.”
