An image-recognition monitoring system named “Orwell” will be installed in more than 43,000 Russian schools, The Moscow Times reports. The platform, which uses computer vision algorithms, will be integrated with facial recognition and monitor students’ movements and identify outsiders on school premises. Data will be stored locally, and parents and children will not be added to the database without consent. The technology could be used in the future to monitor attendance, teachers’ working hours and distance learning.
