The Russian data protection authority, Roskomnadzor, issued guidelines for data operators on drafting privacy policies to comply with Russia’s 2006 privacy law, Hogan Lovells’ Chronicle of Data Protection reports. The guidelines emphasize compliance expectations to Russia’s Personal Data Law, which requires data operators to adopt privacy policies on how they process personal information and to publish and provide access to such policies. It is reported that while most recommendations are included in the design of the law, a separate administrative liability for noncompliance took effect last month and could result in a warning or a fine of up to RUB 30,000. It is believed that Roskomnadzor will investigate companies to ensure they are adhering to the compliance guidelines ahead of any action.
