Diginomica reports on the steps Royal Mail took to ensure one of the services it offers is compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Royal Mail’s Home Mover Marketing Service vendors are told when customers are going to move, in order to market relevant products to them. Since the service revolved around marketing communications customers may not want, Royal Mail had to revamp HMMS to avoid GDPR violations. Royal Mail Data Services Managing Director Jim Conning worked with the U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office on turning HMMS around, and now the service features safeguards protecting consumers’ rights, with Royal Mail also reviewing all correspondences sent by third-party vendors.
