In this week’s Privacy Tracker legislative roundup, read about what the passage of the U.S. CLOUD Act may mean going forward, including in Australia. Bermuda’s Personal Information Protection Act goes into effect in December. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is expected to publish this month recommendations on data ownership, privacy and security for the app developers and companies. New Zealand’s Parliament conducted the first round of debates on its Privacy Bill with all sitting members in support. In the U.S., two Democratic senators introduced the Customer Online Notification for Stopping Edge-provider Network Transgressions Act aimed at enhancing consumer privacy, a California ballot initiative seeks to establish new consumer privacy rights and expand liability for consumer data breaches, and a proposal in Illinois would add exemptions to its biometric privacy law.
