Canada Radio-television and Telecommunications (CRTC) announced that Rogers Media has agreed to a $200k fine for violating Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL). According to an Ottawa Citizen report, Rogers violated the law by sending emails between July 2014 and July 2015 with an “unsubscribe” option that was not functional. This is the fourth CASL fine, following CRTC actions against Compu-Finder ($1.1m), PlentyOfFish ($48k) and Porter Airlines ($150k). After July 1, 2017, consumers will be able to file lawsuits for CASL violations.
