During California's busiest legislative session since 2007, Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., signed nine privacy-related pieces of legislation into law, including the Delete Act and a Confidentiality of Medical Information Act amendment to increase protections for reproductive health data. IAPP Westin Research Fellow Andrew Folks, CIPP/US, recapped developments from the 2022-2023 session, which included a fight over assigning liability to online platforms and resulted in the passage of Assembly Bill 1394.
