A review into the accessibility of the Health Professional Online Services for health care providers has resulted in a request for tighter security controls, particularly around access to Medicare card information, ZDNet reports. The final report details 14 measures to improve the security of Medicare card numbers within the HPOS system based upon a balance between appropriate access for health care providers and security of patient information. Such measures include establishing the “more secure” Provider Digital Access platform to provide authentication for health care providers, as well as working to simplify the terms and conditions of platforms to ensure that people “fully appreciate the seriousness of their obligations.”
