Researchers are using photos of people wearing face masks to train facial recognition algorithms to recognize individuals beyond the coverings, CNET reports. Researchers published a dataset to GitHub with more than 1,200 Instagram images and in China compiled a database with more than 5,000 photos. The images are “not private,” Workaround CEO Wafaa Arbash said. “We were just searching and getting the right data.” Meanwhile, an Apple update has made it easier to unlock an iPhone while wearing a mask.
