A research project by University of Technology Sydney Centre for Media Transition Postdoctoral Research Fellow Sacha Molitorisz and RMIT University Senior Lecturer James Meese studied Australians’ experiences with informed consent and privacy on smartphones. While participants said privacy is important to them, they often feel consent is more of a trap with long and complicated terms and conditions. Three recommendations from the findings are to keep and repair informed consent, improve privacy law, and focus on design.
