Former Texas congressman Will Hurd is the first Republican U.S. presidential candidate to release a formal policy plan on artificial intelligence, The New York Times reports. In the plan, Hurd calls for AI to be used more widely, including employing tools within federal agencies to make the government "more responsive to the needs of everyday Americans," while also supporting industry regulation. He would require companies seeking to build AI models to obtain permits and impose "strict regulations" on exports of the technology.
