According to The Hill, U.S. Reps. Greg Walden, R-Ore., and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., are asking ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, to provide details on the app's children's privacy policies and safeguards. The probe follows a joint complaint to the Federal Trade Commission from a coalition of privacy advocates alleging TikTok violated the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. Walden and McMorris Rodgers wrote to ByteDance regarding the COPPA claims, along with general data privacy inquiries, and have requested a response by June 5.
