Reps. David Cicilline, D-R.I., and Jeff Fortenberry, R-Neb., are seeking a response from Google on YouTube’s data-collection practices and whether the subsidiary is violating the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, Multichannel News reports. The two representatives sent a letter to Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Federal Trade Commission Chairman Joseph Simons asking for information on whether YouTube’s child services programs are flagged to prevent data collection, if algorithms consider age when recommending content or sending targeted ads, and how the video platform determines the age of its users. The letter comes after New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas sued Google and other tech companies for allegedly collecting data from children without parental consent.
