A pair of organizations is releasing two separate reports addressing the encryption battle between law enforcement agencies and tech companies, USA Today reports. The EastWest Institute’s report calls upon both sides to work together on the topic, offering nine areas encouraging governments to permit the use of encryption, while crafting a framework to allow law enforcement agencies to access the plain text of encrypted data in certain situations. The National Academies of Science’s encryption study outlines issues that need to be addressed both by businesses and lawmakers. "Encryption is one of those issues where there’s no perfect solution. But you’ve got to start somewhere," Berkeley Center For Law & Technology Executive Director Jim Dempsey said.
