The Associated Press reports the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act may hamper the U.S. Census Bureau's efforts to obtain 2020 census information on college students living on campus. FERPA will not permit school officials to disclose certain student information, including sex or race. Two weeks after issuing a memo asking schools to abide by the law, the Department of Education has revised its position and said schools can release the data so long as it is stripped of personally identifiable information.
