Euractiv reports Italy backed prohibiting targeted political advertising “based on pervasive tracking” and called for a total ban on processing sensitive data to target or amplify ads. Italy’s comments, reviewed by Euractiv, were outlined in a document responding to the European Commission’s proposed regulation for "increasing transparency in political advertising." France was more favorable on the proposed regulations, commenting the provisions "strike a delicate balance between two essential elements of democratic debate" regarding consumers' abilities to access political information.
