Health care data breaches increased 44.44% in October over the month prior, HIPAA Journal reports. According to the October 2019 Healthcare Data Breach Report, of the 52 breaches reported to the Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights in October, 661,830 health care records were reported as exposed, disclosed without permission or stolen. Meanwhile, WHSV reports approximately 220,000 Medicare card numbers were compromised in a data breach by “an unknown person or organization,” according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.
