While it has been more than three years since the U.S. Office of Personnel Management suffered a data breach, a report from the Government Accountability Office found the agency has only implemented 64 percent of the recommendations from the government’s in-house auditor, Nextgov reports. The report also found that in some cases, the agency failed to reset passwords that were used before the breach. OPM’s chief information officer told the accountability office that of the 29 recommendations outstanding, the agency has plans to implement 25 before the end of the year. The GAO report follows the recent discovery by OPM’s inspector general that “material weakness” had been found in the agency’s security program and cited “the agency’s culture of minimizing the role of the chief information officer.”
