A report from DLA Piper found data protection authorities have administered 272.5 million euros in fines since the EU General Data Protection Regulation went into effect. The law firm found the Italian DPA, the Garante, has issued roughly 69.3 million euros in penalties since May 2018, the highest in the EU. The top-five is rounded out by the DPAs in Germany, France, the U.K. and Spain. DLA Piper also found there have been more than 281,000 data breach notifications reported in that time frame, with Germany posting the highest number at 77,747.
