Yahoo News reports on a 2017 U.S. Custom and Border Patrol investigation that accessed government databases to see travel, financial crime and even terrorist history, and the oversight the office may have over personal data. Border Patrol agent Jeffrey Rambo used federal databases "to determine (journalists') personal connections" in attempts to confirm intelligence leaks, and referred to this as "standard practices." American Civil Liberties Union National Security Project Senior Staff Attorney Hugh Handeyside said, "We’re in a very dangerous place if having no rules means officers can’t break any rules.”
