Privacy group Big Brother Watch released a report finding 114 U.K. councils suffered a breach of their computer systems between 2013 and 2017, BBC News reports. Of those 114 incidents, 25 of the councils reported they experienced a loss of data from the breach. The group found the majority of the incidents were as a result of successful phishing attacks, while discovering three-quarters of the councils did not have any mandatory cybersecurity training, with 16 percent having no training at all. "One would assume that the [councils] would be doing their utmost to protect citizens' sensitive information," Big Brother Watch Lead Researcher Jennifer Krueckeberg said. "Local authorities need to take urgent action and make sure they fulfil their responsibilities to protect citizens."
