Research by advocacy group Human Rights Watch found remote learning applications and websites used during the COVID-19 pandemic tracked and shared millions of children’s online behaviors and personal information at a “dizzying scale,” The Washington Post reports. The research, analyzing 164 apps in 49 countries, determined many shared students’ information with marketers and data brokers who then built data profiles used for targeted advertising, while few disclosed the use to parents.
