In an article for The Atlantic, April Doss, CIPP/US, writes that the recently released U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act application is an “an extraordinary development in at least four different ways” and that, when taken together, they should “offer an unexpected reason for hope.” Doss writes that while House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes’ actions may have undermined the intelligence community, they may have also had an unexpected positive effect in providing greater transparency. Doss adds, “these applications should help put to rest fear that the process of surveilling U.S. persons could be as simple as filling out some superficial government form for a perfunctory review.”
