In what's being considered the largest-ever settlement in a case alleging violations of Michigan's privacy laws, the publisher of Reader's Digest will pay out $8.2 million to settle a proposed class-action lawsuit, Law360 reports. The publisher allegedly sold subscribers' personal information. Plaintiff Shannon Taylor alleged Trusted Media Brands Inc. violated subscribers' privacy when it sold detailed personal information, which included names and home addresses and other demographic data, such as gender, religion and political affiliation, to data brokers and other third parties.
