IT World Canada reports the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has ongoing interest in using facial recognition technology as part of its policing techniques. RCMP Deputy Commissioner Bryan Larkin said public dialogue around potential use is necessary, but law enforcement "would be remiss if we didn’t look at what’s happening around the globe" with facial recognition use. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada found in June 2021 the RCMP violated the Privacy Act through its use of Clearview AI's facial recognition technology.
