After its internal computer system was held at ransom by cyber criminals, the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center acquiesced to their demands, a move which “baffled” enforcement agencies confess is currently the best move for threatened companies, The Hill reports. “The ransomware is that good,” said Joseph Bonavolonta of the FBI’s Cyber and Counterintelligence Program in Boston. “To be honest, we often advise people just to pay the ransom,” he added. “In a matter of years, cyber criminals have been able to build a low-risk, high-reward underground industry on the back of these sophisticated viruses,” the report states, with police agencies even having to pay ransoms. “This is a business like any other legitimate business,” said Recorded Future’s Levi Gundert.
