This spring, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a report on the data broker industry indicating data brokers operate with a ”fundamental lack of transparency” and recommending Congress consider legislation on data broker practices. In this exclusive for The Privacy Advisor, Hogan Lovells’ Christopher Wolf shares his Q&A with Federal Trade Commissioner Josh Wright about a part of the report that was not well-recognized when it was released—“a number of concerns, mini-dissents if you will” noted in Wright’s “dissent by footnotes.” As Wright explains in one response, “Crafting a solution before one identifies the size, scope and nature of a potential problem gives rise to a number of concerns.”
