AdExchanger reports on the new data responsibilities the Publicis Groupe now faces after it acquired Epsilon/Conversant for $4.4 billion. The acquisition now makes Publicis a data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation and likely gives the company more responsibilities for future privacy legislation. Forrester Vice President and Principal Analyst Fatemeh Khatibloo, CIPM, said the company is “not used to that position, and I don’t know how much bandwidth Epsilon’s privacy team has to manage how their data is going to be used across the whole ecosystem.” The Engine Group Chief Data and Privacy Officer Jason Bier, CIPP/US, said Publicis may benefit from its sole responsibility for the information, rather than run any risk with third-party processing.
