The South Korean government is urging the public to use encrypted personal numbers instead of phone numbers for COVID-19 contact-tracing measures in an effort to protect privacy, The Sentinel reports. Authorities can convert encrypted personal numbers only if the individual must be contacted for virus-related reasons. Encrypted personal numbers will remain unchanged and valid until the pandemic is over.
