The Artificial Intelligence and Data Act within Canada’s proposed Digital Charter Implementation Act, Bill C-27, would establish requirements around AI design, development and use in the private sector, including biometrics, Biometric Update reports. The proposal would require measures to “identify, assess and mitigate the risks of harm or biased output,” regulate against using systems created with illegally obtained personal information, and the appointment of an AI and data commissioner to oversee compliance.
