Security and privacy advocates say a bill intended to protect children from online predators could weaken end-to-end encryption and risks putting more children in danger, CNET reports. The Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies Act would require technology companies to meet standards established by a National Commission on Online Child Sexual Exploitation Prevention. The standards are not yet known, but the U.S. Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security have called for “lawful access” to encrypted messages, which security experts argue will stop end-to-end encryption.
