Debate has sprung over an amendment to the Education Act in Alberta that could impact the privacy of students who participate in gay-straight alliances, CBC News reports. Bill 8 amends the Education Act; however, it will not include a provision to make it illegal for teachers to inform parents when their child has joined a GSA. Alberta's United Conservative government said the province's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act will protect students in publicly funded schools, and the Personal Information Protection Act would cover those in private schools.
