Consumer complaints were filed against two advertising technology companies, IQM Corporation and Kargo Global, prompting the Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program to open inquiries into the company’s privacy disclosure policies and the opt-out tools for each site, according to the Advertising Self-Regulatory Council. “Providing and maintaining easy-to-use opt-out tools are essential to honoring consumer privacy,” ASRC Accountability Program Director of Adjudications and Technology Jon Brescia said. In IQM's case, users were unable to opt out of the company’s data collection practices, or in the Kargo's case, the opt-out tool did not work. Both companies worked with the Accountability Program to overhaul their existing privacy policies and practices and updated their web-based opt-out tools to bring them into compliance with privacy principles.
